Assessing Common Method Bias: Problems with the ULMC Technique
نویسندگان
چکیده
This appendix outlines some of the more prevalent techniques for controlling and for detecting common method bias. These include (1) Harman’s single factor test (Podsakoff et al. 2003), (2) partial correlation technique (Podsakoff et al. 2003), (3) multitrait–multimethod (MMTM) (Shadish et al. 2002), (4) the correlation marker technique, (5) confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) marker technique (Lindell and Whitney 2001), and (6) unmeasured latent method construct (ULMC) technique (Richardson et al. 2009). Table A1 includes descriptions of each CMB technique, their limitations and associated references. For a complete review of these techniques see Podsakoff et al. (2003), Richardson et al. (2009), and Williams et al. (2010). Rather than revisit in detail these techniques, which are familiar to IS researchers, this research note focuses on describing the ULMC technique (Richardson et al. 2009) and evaluating its ability to detect CMB when using PLS.

A comparative study of quantitative mapping methods for bias correction of ERA5 reanalysis precipitation data
This study evaluates the ability of different quantitative mapping (QM) methods as a bias correction technique for ERA5 reanalysis precipitation data. Climate type and geographical location can affect the performance of the bias correction method due to differences in precipitation characteristics. For this purpose, ERA5 reanalysis precipitation data for the years 1989-2019 for 10 selected syno...
متن کاملControlling for Method Bias: A Critique and Reconceptualization of the Marker Variable Technique
The marker variable technique is an easy-to-use technique for estimating the magnitude of method bias within a study. However, its validity has not yet been established. This paper addresses three issues assessing the validity of the technique and finds that it is subject to significant validity threats. A redefinition of the marker variable correlation is proposed, which partly addresses the t...
متن کاملA numerical technique for solving a class of 2D variational problems using Legendre spectral method
An effective numerical method based on Legendre polynomials is proposed for the solution of a class of variational problems with suitable boundary conditions. The Ritz spectral method is used for finding the approximate solution of the problem. By utilizing the Ritz method, the given nonlinear variational problem reduces to the problem of solving a system of algebraic equations. The advantage o...
متن کاملA New Approach to Assessing Test Bias
A new regression-based method of assessing test bias is proposed. We highlight two different potential causes of differences in groups' regression line intercepts. Intercepts differing due to mean criterion score differences are not interpreted as predictive test bias. Using both simulated and employee data, we illustrate this new approach. Test bias is a systematic error in how a test measures...
متن کاملAn Augmented Common Weight Data Envelopment Analysis for Material Selection in High-tech Industries
Material selection is a challenging issue in manufacturing processes while the inappropriate selected material may lead to fail the manufacturing process or end user experience especially in high-tech industries such as aircraft and shipping. Every material has different quantitative and qualitative criteria which should be considered simultaneously when assessing and selecting the right materi...
